Born as Siva Shankara Varaprasad, Telugu film industry’s most popular hero got his name from the Lord Anjaneya. Chiranjeevi is celebrating his 56th birthday today that is August 22. Today he may be a politician but his fans swear by his acting and dancing skills.
Chiranjeevi was born on 1955, and entered into film industry with the movie Punadhi Rallu. But it was only in the year 1981 that he got chance to appear as a lead hero in the film Intlo Ramayya Veedilo Krishnayya. In that year only, he was appreciated by the critics for his unique acting in the film Mondi Ghatam. Intlo Ramayya Veedilo Krishnayya directed by Kodi Ramakrishna, not only strengthened his position as a big star but also brought him lot of laurels. In 1982, he acted in Subhalekha under the direction of K. Viswanath, for which he received a Filmfare Award. Khaidi directed by A. Kodandarami Reddy released in 1983. This film was based on the Sylvester Stallone-starrer First Blood. Khaidi was a box-office success and gave Chiranjeevi an action hero’s image. It became a major blockbuster and a turning point in Chiranjeevi’s career. Over the next three years, Chiranjeevi gradually occupied the top slot which he held until he acted. The films that followed Khaidi gave him the image of an action hero. By the end of 1983, he had acted in about 60 movies, mostly in supporting roles, some as villain and some as character roles.
Affectionately called as Chiru by his fans and admirers, Chiranjeevi ruled Tollywood for over three decades and redefined the word of Heroism. Chiru’s natural acting, his expressions, perfect dialogue modulations, graceful dance moves reached the audience right way in making him the numero-uno star in Telugu film industry.
Chiranjeevi ventured into politics in 2008 August and created Praja Rajyam Party. Later he merged his party with Congress. Chiranjeevi has so far acted in 149 films and the latest reports say the star is planning to return to silver-screens to complete his 150th movie. His son Ram Charan Teja is also an established hero in Telugu films. May be the father can make a comeback with son’s film.
